From the argument from Drs. Nawaz and Harris, I found the idea of reforming Islam to embrace liberalism, secularism, tolerance and respect for free speech stand out and important. Muslims have had the idea of enforcing into other people what they believe is right according to them. They are shy to address their plight because they still uphold the outdated ideas disregarding civilization and liberalism. Many Muslims practice the wrong interpretation of the scripture, which justifies theocracy which has resulted to the motivation in engagement in jihad and other killings by trying to forcefully impose Islam to the society. Reform has been pinpointed to be the only solution to changing the Islam mindset, by using the right measure to spearhead the process. According to Drs. Nawaz, this can be made possible by other non-Muslim counties acknowledging that this is an ideological war, and organize for a sensitization campaign among Muslim to make them embrace free speech and liberalism and accept that secularism exist and it is not a sin being secular.
The question that comes to my head as I listen to the discussion is whether at some point in the Muslim world do people undergo a cult. This is because the aggression in which the Muslim has been involved in claiming that they are protecting their faith. For instance, in the case of the killing of the French cartoonist, the Isil ideology and many others are questionable. In the world, there are more than 4,000 religions in the world, but apart from Islam, no other religion has had made history in defending their faith the way Muslim does. If everyone chose to do the same the world could crush in the name of religion.
