Part I: What is a worldview?
Despite the simple interpretation of the word worldview as a view of the world, the term covers a wide range of human aspects, emotions, meanings, and consequences. Some of the basic human aspects under worldview are life, death, expression, discovery, faith, wealth, values, and beliefs (Hemphill, 1993). According to Schaeffer and Dennis (2005), a worldview can be defined as the fundamental philosophy which shapes human thinking thereby, shaping the way humans live. (72 words)
Part II: The Biblical Worldview
According to the Good News Bible (1976), God created the universe and everything in it. It is documented that before the creation, the earth was formless and desolate (Genesis 1: 1-2). Therefore, the world originated from God. The origin of light and darkness, the sky, land, sea, plants, trees, Sun, Moon, stars, flying and sea creatures, animals, and humans is documented in the Bible (Genesis 1: 3-31). Humanity came into existence after Adam and Eve were created by the Creator (Genesis 2:7-22). Adam and Eve went on to have children Cain and Abel, and as their descendants grew in number, so did humanity (Genesis 4:1-2).

To be humans means to follow the Creator’s commands and watch over all other creations. Humans are placed on a higher hierarchy to rule over other animals (Good News Bible, 1976, Genesis 1:26). This signifies that humans are more important than animals. This idea is supported by Genesis 1:27 which depicts humans to be the only creature in the image of God. Humans have also been portrayed to be more superior to other animals in Jesus’ teachings; an example is Matthew 10: 31 when Jesus states that one is more valuable than many sparrows.
The creation of humans in the likeness of God contributes to their purpose in the world; humans are viewed as God’s children. The purpose of humanity is to serve God and do His will through devotion, submission, and faithfulness (Good News bible, 1976, John: 4). Humanity should also sing songs of praises and glorify the Creator (Psalms 100: 2-4).
Wrong and right is clearly defined in the Bible, humanity is urged to do the right thing and refrain from evil deeds and sin. The Ten Commandments in the Bible sets basic Christian principles concerning morality and worship (Good News bible, 1976, Exodus 20: 2-17). The Two Commandments by Jesus Christ which are Love the Lord your God and love your neighbor also define right from wrong and can be used to determine morality (Matthew 22: 37-40).
The destiny of a human depends on the person’s life, his/her choices while living, and their faith in Jesus Christ. The destiny of humans is explained in John 3:16; everlasting life is promised to those who believe in Jesus (Good News Bible, 1976). Jesus uses the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus to explain the relationship between human life and life after death (Luke 16: 19-31). Human deeds in their lifetime determine their eternal destinies. (411 words)
Part III: Biblical worldview belief system
Bible scriptures should influence the worldview on thinking patterns, treating our neighbors, and communicating with others. Acts 5: 1-11 should influence humanity to be truthful in their communication with God and fellow humans. The Ten Commandments, Jesus Two Commandments, and many of his teachings also portray the importance of humility, kindness, and being a good neighbor (Good News Bible, 1976). The Bible states that you should work at something with all your heart as though you are working for the Lord and not for humans (Colossians 3:23-24). Humans should also be ready to submit and devote to God’s calling to serve; Samuel’s calling is a great example; he spent the rest of his life in service of God (1 Samuel 1-3). (121 words)
