Relationship
Ibrahim was a Greek convert turn Muslim and a close friend marrying Sulayman's sister and had great leadership campaign in his army. Mustafa was his firstborn son, born by his first wife but later on, fell in love with a slave girl Hurrem. The dynastic system required that the firstborn become an heir to the throne and a slave girl was a bad omen for the sultan who bore her a son that becomes closer to the Sultan than the firstborn son and true heir. Hurrem later immerses herself into the politics of the dynasty seeking to promote her son to the throne and to remove Ibrahim from his position of influence and caused Sulayman to kill the rightful heir. The sultan’s engagement with Hurrem became the cause of his downfall (Daily Motion, n.d.).
Successful Reign
Sulayman’s reign was successful in the following areas
Leadership Strategy
Sulayman was a strategic ruler. Before his establishment, he had to contend with his generals who made his ascension and rulership difficult in its early stages. However, Sulayman had to disprove them and this he did by setting on for the conquest of Belgrade Hungary that would be a strategic platform to conquering Europe, as was the plan of the Muslim sultan to advance westwards. His second conquest was the Rhode Island a move that was calculated to eliminate Christians who were a threat to the Islamic faith and troublesome pirates who impeded the growth of the business by capturing Islamic ships. The conquest of the Rhode Island with the strongest fort then was a new strategy that involved digging out its foundation to weaken and bring it down (Daily Motion, n.d.). The defeat of Rhode expanded the global image of the Ottoman Empire and Sulayman.
