The YouTube video features a Christian apologist known as Anthony Rogers who explains why and how the Synoptic Gospels teach about the deity of Jesus Christ. Rogers teaches this in light of the widespread criticism by the Muslim religion that Jesus is not God. Muslims primarily use the Gospel of John to attack the Christian belief in Christ as a God. However, Rogers remains keen to note that although the Gospel of John emphasizes on Christ as a human being, it also provides occasions that emphasize his divinity. Rogers asserts that in John chapter 1, it is clearly written that the word was God and in chapter 14, the word became flesh. Therefore, the Gospel in general paints Jesus as a man and a God, something that many Muslim antagonists have failed to appreciate. The salvation of humanity would only have been possible if Jesus remained subservient to God the father. When Jesus says that his father was greater than him, he further proves his divinity by asserting that his powers emanate from a living God (Jesus is God for MUSLIMS w Christian Apologist Anthony Rogers).
The part that stood out for me is the discussion about the dual identity of Jesus Christ as presented in the Gospel. The Christian apologist reminds Muslims who have misinterpreted the Gospel according to John that Jesus was indeed a God. Elwell, & Yarbrough, (2013) pointed out that in a close assessment of the Gospel; Jesus on several occasions makes references to his position as God. At the Last Supper Jesus says: "You call me Master and Lord; and you are right, for I am (John 13:13). The New Testament uses the title "Lord" on several occasions to refer to Jesus as a divinity sent by God to save his people from the bondage of sin. In answering Philip who had asked to be shown the Father, Jesus says: "Philip, he who has seen me has seen the father" (John 14:9). Christians, therefore, get a perfect portrayal of Jesus, not only as a human but as a divine being held in equal regard to God the father (Elwell, & Yarbrough, 2013).
