As declared by the White House in December (2017), President Trump’s Administration’s National Security Strategy aims at ensuring the well-being of the American citizens as well as putting forward their interests. The strategy has prioritized the protection of the nation’s sovereign rights through dealing with the issues that threaten America’s sovereignty such as nuclear weapon developing regimes, terrorist groups, criminal cartels, as well as unfair burden sharing and trade practices between America and other countries. Trump’s administration’s strategy also seeks to deal with the undermining of America’s interests by rivals around the globe.

Serving the interest of its people is the government’s first duty. Trump’s administration has set its National security strategy to serve American’s interests by protecting them, their way of life, their prosperity, peace, as well as influence around the globe. America has many enemies due to its determination to fight for freedom and human rights as well as its prosperity in different fields. The nation, therefore, ought to have a good strategy to protect itself from all types of attacks. America has in the past been a target for many enemies who are either competitors or groups that are against the ideologies advocated by the nation. America is also a nation that upholds freedom not only for its citizens but also for the entire world.

The invasion of the country’s territory exposes its citizens as well as its economy to danger. Trump’s administration’s strategy includes the securing of the borders and territories of the US. Weapons of mass destruction also put the lives of not only Americans but also fellow human beings in danger. America thus advocates for a safe world for humankind to continue realizing their dreams. Trump’s administration is, therefore, keen on detecting and disrupting weapons of mass destruction as well as in combating Biothreats and Pandemics to keep the Americans as well as other human beings safe.

Many threats by terrorist groups as well as dictatorship regimes originate from the Middle East. In addition, states like North Korea have continued to threaten international safety by investing in research and development of weapons of mass destruction. The dictatorship in Iran also poses a danger to human rights and freedom. The religious extremists, especially, those forming the Islamist State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group are also a major threat to the world’s security. Other direct threats that ought to be addressed are from America’s competitors such as China and Russia, which aim at making economies less free and less fair as well as challenging American power and interest all-round the globe. The jihadist terrorists, as well as other criminal organizations posing a direct threat to American citizens, are also parties that need to be addressed. Trump’s administration’s strategy calls for the detection and disruption of weapons of mass destruction, enhancement of counter-proliferation measures, direct action, counter cyber units as well as strict immigration laws enforcement for the protection of the interests of American citizens.

According to Vajdich (2018), Trump’s administration’s National Security Strategy is a commendable document since it recognizes, in reality, the interaction of countries as well as providing a well-laid framework for the US to advance its interactions and realize its interests around the globe. Trump’s administration will, therefore, do well if it abides by its commitments. It, however, has to begin at home by paying attention to its civil servants who feel disheartened, dejected, and underappreciated. Moreover, Trump’s administration has to have the political will to abide by its commitments beginning from the civil servants who will help in realizing the global influence restoration for America.

The United States is a major player in the International System. This makes it exposed to many dangers and gives the nation many responsibilities in not only ensuring safety for its people but also peace in the entire world. A peaceful and safe international system is a major goal for the United States. Trump’s administration, just like the preceding American governments, prioritizes making the world safe for its citizens as well as the entire humankind.
