Studies indicate that if learners are actively involved in the learning process, the learning is more effective compared to the teacher-centred learning the process. David A. Kolb came up with the Kolb Experiential Learning Cycle that advocates for the student-centred form of education.
In the recent past, I learnt about the various learning styles. Learning is sequential and to be fully engaged in the learning situation, a learner must “hear, see and do.” Below is an articulation and evaluation of my learning based on the Kolb learning cycle and questions. The four stages of the sequence are;

Concrete Experience
Kolb identified this as an actual event that occurred during the learning process. This experience enables the learner to relate what was learnt to the event that occurred. For instance, our teacher used the visual display for the first time when he taught us about the learning styles. He projected various illustrative diagrams about the learning styles on the whiteboard. This experience stood out as unique, and it enhanced my learning process.
Observing and Reflecting
Kolb described this as the thought process of the experience. The learners relate the experience to other experiences in their life. For instance, in my experience when I learnt about the learning styles, the well-structured diagrams used by the teacher made me have a keen interest in what he was teaching. In the past, simple sketches were drawn on the chalkboard to make illustrations. However, the new method made more impact in explaining the learning styles.
Forming Abstract Concepts
The learning experience is designed to create illustrations that make the concepts easy to understand to the learner. This stage aims to link the actual learning experience to the concepts that were to be taught. For instance, in my learning experience, the visual display enhanced my visualization of the concept that the teacher was teaching. The learning styles demonstrated using diagrams were easily understood and internalized. The experience was entirely different from other learning experiences.
Testing in New Situations
The Kolb learning cycle can be made more effective through active experimentation. The learners should use the experiential learning to other situations. For instance, I used the visual display diagrams technique to internalize other concepts in other subjects. I would look for diagrammatic illustrations of various concepts online to help me visualize the concept that the teacher taught. The outcome was incredible.
