Labour unions are organizations that allow employees to bargain collectively for their rights to have proper working conditions and compensation for their efforts. These qualities are important to prevent exploitation from employers that are exploitative. An understanding of the labor unions is important for a manager or an HR to avoid conflicts with employees who may at one point be offended intentionally or unintentionally. As an employer or a manager, it is important to understand the rights of employees to join the unions.

Union acts
The union acts provide a shield to the employees allowing them to organize into unions. There are several Union Acts protecting workers in the private sector and some only in the public sector. It is important to understand and distinguish these unions to prepare for employment or working with employees in both private and public sectors. Moreover, the Acts outline what is expected of the employees and the employers which is important to know to detect any form of exploitation by the employees under ones’ management. Some of the acts include Railway Labour Acts, Wagner Act, Taft-Hartley Act, and Landrum Griffin Act among others.
Positive Employee Relations Practices
The process of going before courts for violating employees labor unions rights or even employees spending much time in labor unions can be minimized and even prevented through proper employee relations practice. These practices range from creating and promoting employee-manager communications, employee rewards and appreciation, understanding how to relate with employees regarding what to say and what to say not, and incorporating meaningful strategies that will help the employees to be more involved mentally and physically even to take risks.
