The dynamic environment in the business world requires HR professionals to be competent to deliver not only HR outcomes but business outcomes when called upon. The human resource has been undergoing reconstruction, and that has widened the work scope and capabilities execution (Boudreau, 2005). Competence will make the human resource professional in the future to handle all types of duties in the organization effectively and ensure competitive advantage in the fast-changing economy.

The HR professionals will also require competency in hiring the best employees who will lead to the development of the company. A job model can be used in the hiring process, starting with the identification of appropriate job performance of the applicants. The job elements have to be analyzed to ensure that the candidates hired will be aware of exactly what will be expected of them. Behavioral event interviews will be essential as they will help determine the levels of competence among the applicants. There are various tests and measures that can be applied in identifying the appropriate competences required in a specific job (Klemp, 1979a). These factors will ensure that only the best will be hired, those which will ensure that the organization gains a competitive edge.

Human resource department is continuously faced with challenges related to the internal and external environment. An example of such a challenge is trying to come up with efficiencies at the business levels and same time ensuring that the needs of the entire workforce are served. Competencies will help HR professionals to tackle these problems without letting any side be affected, thus achieving business welfare and employees satisfaction (Brewster, Farndale, & Whittaker, 2000). These challenges will continue to be complicated in the future, which explains the needs of the competencies.
