Today, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) leaders need to have a specific set of skills beyond higher education and field experience. Modern leaders and the future must be bold, dynamic believers who enjoy their work. There are multiple characteristics and set of skills that are crucial for each EMS leader to have to help in dealing with new challenges in public safety. 

Listener . As a market leader this is the most vital set of skills one must possess. However, it is not just concerned with listening to what junior employees are saying, but also listening to what they are feeling as well.

Team player . Modern time demand that budgets and safety concerns score partnership at every level, so the market leaders should have the capacity to work with others. When it comes to sharing the mantle of leadership, the leaders should be prepared. This current market leadership should strive to be a team player willing to reach out to other agencies and units to achieve the mutual goal of ensuring public safety. 

Strategizer . Today, it has become a norm that all public safety organizations must get used to scarce funding and survive in a politically charged environment. Thus, a market leader should be able to effectively strategize and hold on their own in a challenging setting. This leader possesses great common sense ought also to be skilled with budgets. 

Conceptualization . This the principal function of servant leadership. EMS market leaders should have the capacity to think above and beyond their day-to-day operational duties and play close attention to a problem or the organization. This is where having a vision for the future comes into play. 

A people’s person . Today, public safety agencies are expected to do more with less. As a result, this market leader must be a negotiator, and an actual people’s person to motivate staff and overcome the numerous challenges. The set of skills necessary to take an organization to the next level of success is different than that related to running a military entity that is structured and dependent on a chain of command. The EMS market leaders are personable. 

In recent years, professional development has changed dramatically. Professional development assists employees continue to not just be competent in their career, but also succeed in it. Therefore, it is a continuing process persists throughout a person’s profession. Professional development will play an essential role in my transition into market leadership by reenergizing the staff. As such, this is going to assist my team in gaining new skills and perspective, which can translate into how they approach their duties. Professional development will also contribute to creating an exceptional marketing workforce. In this way, it will enable me to help my employees accomplish the highest employment potential and discover professional fulfilment. The strategic plan will involve the following: 

Immersing myself in the organizational culture . Fitting in at a new position as a market leader implies witnessing the general culture of the organization and adjusting. Because I am here for the new post, I demonstrated different values that made me a good match for the company. Therefore, I am committed to embracing the culture of the organization by making office norms my new habits. 

Setting goals . In the first three months, I will make a point to set some beneficial goals. This would involve asking myself what I should achieve in the 90 days, what I want to accomplish in the future, and how I plan to enhance my efficiency frequently.
