Exploration of the data showed that among the adults in the US (20+), the prevalence of heart failure was 2.3% in 2017 – 2018. This is a remarkable decrease from previous years, where the prevalence was 2.7% in 2011 – 2012, 2.6% in 2013 – 2014, and 2.5% in 2015 – 2016 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2019). On the other hand, the prevalence for coronary heart disease among adults in the US (20+) was 4.2% in 2017 – 2018), 3.5% in 2015 – 2016, 3.7% in 2013 – 2014, and 2.9 % in 2011 – 2012 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2019). Finally, the prevalence for stroke among adults in the US (18+) was 3.4% in 2018, 3.0% in 2017, 3.1% in 2016, 3.0% in 2015 and 3.0 % in 2014 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2019).
Several things can be inferred from this data. First, the prevalence of heart failure has been dropping since 2011. The same trend is observable with coronary heart disease in the same time interval. However, the same inference cannot be made with the data showing the prevalence of stroke among American adults. It is observed that the prevalence of stroke is neither increasing nor decreasing consistently. It can, therefore, be inferred that the prevalence of stroke is generally constant at 3%, and the variations are minor spikes in the overall trend. Alternatively, the larger gap between the prevalence of stroke in 2018 as compared to the previous years, creating the inference that the prevalence of stroke is rising since 2018. However, such a claim would become a valid inference if the statistics from 2019 and 2020 show an increasing trend.

It should be noted, however, that without substantiating data, inferences are just claims. In a similar manner, the inferences drawn above cannot shed more light on the factors contributing to the trends, such as the risk factors.
