The ability to cultivate effective communication strategies is critical to becoming a successful and influential leader. The major communication strengths that have enabled me to become a successful leader in my capacity as the youth group chairman in our church include the ability to use social media and other written communication. My ability to support group communication and dynamics has also helped ensure that the team stays together. I have developed a Whatsapp group for the members, which people use to discuss only matters relating to the affairs of the youth group. I also use the WhatsApp group to communicate to members on the dates and venues of upcoming group meetings. Through the Whatsapp group, members have had the position to interact with one another, thereby increasing cohesion. During group discussions, I try to ensure that all members have an opportunity to air their ideas and contributions. I developed a rule whereby three-quarters of the group members must approve before the implementation of an idea.
Being a leader is not an easy job. Some of my major communication weaknesses include the inability to control my feelings when conflicts arise. I sometimes become overwhelmed with anger when members share insensitive remarks demeaning my ability to lead the group. I often feel that such remarks are targeted to my person rather than to the office of the leader. Through research, I have come to realize that there are various helpful ways of addressing anger management issues. First, taking time to think before I speak when angered will ensure that I become relaxed and refrain from uttering words that will make me regret later ( Tafrate & Kassinove, 2019) . Practicing on deep-breathing exercises is also pivotal in encouraging relaxation.

Addressing my areas of weakness will create understanding, collaboration, and group cohesion. Members will not have the ability to freely air their grievances with no fear of being ridiculed by the chair afterward. Addressing my anger management issues will enable the group members will have more confidence in my ability to positively steer the group successfully ( Burt, 2018) . As a leader, I will also have the ability to institute various dispute resolution mechanisms that will help address any issues arising from internal disputes. As a result, members will dedicate most of their time focused on attaining group goals rather than holding grudges with one another.
