Legal environment refers to rules or laws that collectively protect the rights of students. Colleges in the contemporary society are faced with a number of serious legal issues. These issues are common to all institutions of higher education such as privacy rights of students, suicides and any violent act on campus and anything that can promote abusive behavior like bullying.

Race and Diversity in Admissions is a legal law that should be addressed in student admission decisions ( Blanchard, 2013). It can be viewed as one factor among many which favors one race over another. I would change this law by suggesting that it should be eliminated to allow every student an equal chance for admission into colleges of their choice.

Student Records and Privacy Acts is a law that applies to records which contain information directly related to a student and which are maintained by an educational institution. Example of such records include: grades, discipline, attendance records, test scores and projects that have been prepared and turned in by students. The law allows access by students to their records and privacy for those records (Blanchard, 2013). It ensures that the records are not disclosed to anyone other than a limited class of recipients of the information, such as guidance counselors and school administrators. I would change this legal environment by allowing the student records to be accessed by all students in the institution so that each one of them can know their strengths and weaknesses so as to find a way to grow and work hard.

Student and employee litigation is also a legal law that protects the employee/student misconduct and related actions. Title VII, IX, claims under the employee protection act, allegation of employee/student misconduct and bullying ( Yell, Katsiyannis, Rose & Houchins, 2016). In th is situation as an administrator, I would get my attorney since every college has one who gives legal advice and assistance. Additionally, an attorney can aggressively respond to a potential claim at its initial stage and help to resolve it before it escalates into a lawsuit. Handbooks can also be of much help since it has disciplinary consequences for violations thus can reduce any accusations because the handbook is signed by both the students and the employees. I can also involve myself personally to calm things by dealing with the student or employee one-on-one. Legal environment is very important in colleges since it protects the students and employees as a whole.
