Conception to Birth

Two fundamental occurrences between conception and birth include implantation as well as rapid development of the fetus. After fertilization two gametes, each with 23 chromosomes combine to form a zygote.

Embryo development is another significant growth aspect that happens after implantation of the embryo. There are three vital stages of development by the embryo. They include the first, second and third trimester. During the first trimester, rapid formation of the fetus cells happens. In the second trimester, the major organs start forming. The last trimester is signified by the presence of a complete organism who can perceive environmental occurrences. In the case of preterm birth, the fetus can survive in the last trimester. It ends at 9 months, during delivery.

Early childhood

During Early childhood, an infant develops attachment instincts and perceive their environment. Besides, biosocial development is evident in this stage. Children grow not only in height but also their brain and other organs rapidly develop. Attachment is mostly developed during breastfeeding. On the other hand, a child can perceive their environment, for example, can follow the source of a noise.

First two years

Two significant milestones that can be achieved in the first two years after a child is born are cognitive development and motor skills.

Infant cognition plays a major role in emotional development. Besides, it is directly or indirectly related to biosocial development as the brain development is crucial here. Piaget, in his classical theory of a child, development sheds light into this. Besides, children develop selective attention during this stage.

Motor skills, both fine and gross are skills acquired by children as early as 3 months. Often, they start reaching out for toys and things around them. Eventually, they develop gross motor skills such as crawling and walking.

Early childhood

Major development in early childhood includes social as well as logic development. In most cases, social skills are developed through play, interaction with the environment as well as other people.

Metacognition is an aspect evident in here. It is the stage where a child’s logic starts developing they can learn a few simple concepts. They can begin counting as well as reasoning. This could be evident during play or early childhood development undertakings.

Middle childhood

It is a stage witnessed when a child is about 6-12 years. Psychosocial and emotional development is a growth aspect central to this stage.

Oedipus complex is an aspect that can be witnessed during this stage. Emotional development is not only in terms of forming strong bonds with family members but also by building friendship relations. Here, children can display characteristics such as love and empathy or even resentment towards those in their circles.

Psychosocial development in this stage is manifested through sibling rivalry, peer group related relations, self-esteem development as well as co-regulation.

All of the concepts mentioned above are intertwined. Implantation and fetus development ensure that a child develops to full term. Halt development, for example, a miscarriage, could end the life of a fetus. Social and emotional development, as well as motor skills development, help a kid in the development of his or her mentality as well as senses such as touch. These are important life skills without which, life can be difficult. A child who does not learn to walk, for example, might not be able to socialize with others in sports such as basketball. Logic and social development are further developed during adolescences and a child who might not interact with others during play, for example, might not learn negotiation skills later in life. Lastly, social and emotional development help in interactions within society. A child who does not learn to socialize, might, for example, be unable to blend well to a given community.

Knowing about lifespan concepts can assist in a career development that is related to kids as one will be able to understand the reason why a child behaves in a particular manner.
