In listening to the speech, the listening barrier I faced related to affirmative listening. I mostly emphasized whether the speaker agreed with their point of view, which hindered me from hearing and exploring differing viewpoints. Listening from that perspective led me to miss vital information from the speech. I can overcome the listening barrier by emphasizing to listen to what speakers say first to ensure I do not miss vital information.

In displaying critical thinking while watching the speech, I would defer judgments to avoid frustrating the speaker. I would ensure the speaker finishes a certain point before asking questions while avoiding interrupting with counter-arguments. I would also respond appropriately by encouraging understanding and respect to ensure I gain perspective and information. Hence, I would be open, candid, and open in my responses while asserting my opinions, respectively, eventually improving my critical thinking skills.
