Behaviorism Theory

The behaviorism theory stipulates that a person learns by responding to stimuli in the environments.  A leaner would, therefore, gain a new behavior or change the one they had as a response to a shift in the environmental stimuli. The process is continuous as one adapts to new stimuli or gains a new knowledge. The process involves exposure to a stimuli and a response to the same. The response mainly involves aligning oneself to internalize what they are exposed to. The realignment results in acquisition of new knowledge or updating the knowledge that one already has. Usually, the change is noticeable by an observer, a mentor or those around them. In most cases, behaviorism the behaviors of those who are exposed to academic stimuli changes for the better. They become better decision makers, their judgment and the general way in which they respond to situations improve. The learning is through responses to stimuli. Sometimes the process is repeated over time such that the texts, process or inferences stick in one’s mind.

Cognitive Theory

It is also referred to us the cognitive information processing theory. The theorists believe that a learner gains knowledge of something by going beyond a mere response to stimuli. The theory states that the people exposed to stimuli internalize and process information in their brains. The learners may also change their behaviors, but only as manifestation of the internal processing of information acquired from the stimulus. Learning involves acquisition of new knowledge or restructuring known knowledge or replacing it altogether. Learners are, therefore, able to link concepts, trying to connect what they see and other related issues. At times they create a mental picture of what they see, learn, here and make sense of them.
