The United States of America is comprised of several states, which act independently or collaborate with the national government to deliver on the national and state mandates. While this is essential to ensure that the citizens benefit, it is not always an easy task for states to collaborate effectively with the federal government. The main reason for this is difference in opinions, as each state would want to implement its own policies. A case in point is the state of Texas, which is constantly in conflict with the US government. The main issue, which is a source of contention, can be viewed from a legal perspective. According to Aaronson et al (2013), as it is, the state of Texas is under the government of Texas, which is governed by the Constitution of Texas. More so, the Texas judicial system is considered one of the most complexes in the United States, which hampers the federal government’s efforts in this state. The reason for this is the fact that there are some policies in the legal system, which is not in line with the US governments liking. Consequently, there arise legal conflicts between the federal government and the state of Texas concerning several legislative policies.

The Texan government has been at the center of legal tussles for a long time as it has a record of over 18 lawsuits against the federal government. These lawsuits revolve around environmental regulation, cuts on healthcare and education funding, and the oversight concerning voting laws (Aaronson et al 2013). The Texas state sued the federal government over voting laws by adopting a voter ID law as well redistricting maps without the approval of the federal government. However, the US Supreme Court struck down some key provisions though the legal lawsuits are still in motion. Perhaps the epitome of these lawsuits revolves around environmental matters. In this case, this state has a record 14 lawsuits with the Environmental Protection Agency being the main opponent in such legal battles. In my opinion, these lawsuits go ahead to reveal a desire by the Texan government to be awarded a leeway to make decisions, which are preferable to its citizens. In my opinion, I believe that there are better ways of solving such issues without having to sue the federal government on every issue. The concerned policy makers can find a middle ground where the US government and the Texan government benefit mutually.
