Human beings are motivated by several factors to achieve success. Abraham Maslow, an American psychologist, created a theory that explains the forces behind human motivation. Abraham's human motivation theory is referred to as Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. To better understand this theory, Abraham Maslow classifies the theory of Needs into five levels.  Maslow's levels of needs are presented in a pyramid form from the lowest to the highest level. “The five levels of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs are Physiological, safety, love, esteem, and self-actualization” (Elizabeth, 2020). This paper discusses how Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs supports social and academic growth of an individual and how it impacts parenting and teaching from different cultures. This theory plays a vital role in an individual social, emotional, and academic growth. Notably, by displaying Maslow's hierarchy on a pyramid, people can identify their level in life and visualize how the next level will be (Elizabeth, 2020).  The first level, which entails the achievement of psychological needs such as food, shelter, and clothing, is the most significant level of all five levels (Vansteenkiste et al., 2020). Besides, meeting the basic needs is the starting ground for an individual's academic and social growth. When studying, an individual focuses on providing some basic requirements to their families. Besides, people tend to draw motivation from the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs pyramid. Therefore, it is imperative to underscore that the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs is essential in one’s academic life. Additionally, an institution that deploys Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is bound to excel. Learning centers can support a child's psychological needs, such as providing adequate water and food to them (Vansteenkiste et al., 2020). Also, an institution can employ security guards to ensure that the students are learning in a safe, secure, and conducive environment. Moreover, schools that embrace children as one large family applies the Maslow Hierarchy by making the students loved and install in them a sense of belonging. Regardless of their family background, race, social class, ethnicity, and gender, children should feel valued and recognized when in a learning institution—according to Abraham Maslow, connecting well socially with one another results in an individual's mental and physical well-being. Notably, Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is a vital tool for social development and growth. The third level of the Maslow Hierarchy pyramid explains the need for love, acceptance, and belonging (Pinkus, 2020). According to Maslow, emotional relationship plays a crucial role in individual behavior. A good relationship with others mitigates mental-related problems such as anxiety and depression. Therefore, human beings need to reach the love and belonging level after achieving their psychological and safety needs. Maslow's hierarchy has a direct impact on the parenting of children worldwide. Furthermore, the theory acts as a framework for parents (Elizabeth, 2020). In parenting and teaching, guardians and parents use the theory to provide them with psychological, safety, and love/ belonging needs. Additionally, the theory enables parents and teachers to detect and have a deeper understanding of a child's behaviors. In conclusion, it is imperative to underscore that human beings have different levels of needs. However, basic human needs such as food, shelter, and clothing are critical for survival. After achieving the psychological level, people proceed to the following levels: safety and security, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization. Notably, the theory is significant in achieving academic and social growth and development among individuals. One of the importance of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is that it acts as a framework that guides both teachers and parents in their roles and duties. Besides, children are taught the strategies and benefits of reaching self-actualization.
