For this section, I focused on TNT’s 5:30 pm-8:00 pm show Ocean’s 8 and commercials that aired in between. From the moment I sat down to watch, I was allured by the relevance of the film and decided to use it for this analysis.

Intend Ended Audience

The film is generally intended for a female audience. This is because the sequel changed from an all-male star cast to an all-female lead cast. This female-led film stole the box office crown credited for its age range and use of diversity (Azalia & Nugroho, 2019). It showed that older people who were a majority of the cast still had something to bargain with. 70% of Ocean’s 8 ticket buyers were female. 70% of the cast were 25 years and older, 14% were 45 and older, while 12% were over 60 years (Pearse, 2018). The diversity of the audience was also well balanced with white, Asian, Latin American, and African American cast being featured. The film was shot in New York.

Type of People Featured

If I were to focus on the main cast, the majority are women aged between 25-60 years (age balance). Few men and children are featured as lead casts. Given the fact that the lead characters are thieves, I would say most of them are from a low social class. But the gala they intent to rob is swelled with people from a very high social class (Jewellery) alone is worth hundreds of millions of dollars). The majority cast is white, but the lead characters are mixed races Asian, African American, Latinos, and non-Hispanic white. Generally, the characters featured in the film, by societal standards, are beautiful. This analysis holds for characters below between 25-35 years e.g., Rihana. Age has its effect on beauty. Most of the attendants at the gala are old and rich hence beauty is not an attribute.

The Role of Older Women

Older women in the TV show Ocean’s 8 are portrayed in different ways. The lead characters’ are shown to be ambitious robbers who make a living out of pickpocketing and stealing (Zahra Demanty & Wirawanda, 2019). In the gala, most women are portrayed to be of high social standing. One (Dafney) even wears a 100 Million dollar necklace. Some of the older women are mothers, wives, and most are single. Social status does not vary significantly with age, race, or body type.

The Role of Older Men

Older men in this film are mostly rich from high-class society. Since the film is dominated by females, men are only featured at the gala of people from a high and pristine social class, accompanied by their glamorous wives.

Relationships

The 8 lead characters are old friends who are joined by a common goal (heist). They all have different talents when it comes to robbery. Other relationships are mostly parole officer-ex-con relationship, husband-wife relationship, parent-child relationships. The commercials I watch were mostly that ‘Chettoos’ featuring a husband and wife, and a superstar, all American whites.

Lifestyles and Point of View

The chetos commercial encourages a lifestyle of unhealthy eating, given the number of calories that the product has. The real estate commercial (Rocket mortgage) the value of getting a house you can afford for your family. As for the TV show, some would argue that the message being passed across is that crime pays.

Ii. Print Ad Analysis

The choice magazine is Life &Style magazine issued 2 days ago.

Intended Audience:

The intended audience for this magazine is show business lovers. This is because the magazine mostly features celebrities and their personal and professional lives.

Intending to Sell

The ad I saw was that of a penthouse on sale. The penthouse goes for $17 million. This ad targets audiences from a high social class that can afford such expensive taste.

Featured Audiences

The magazine mostly features celebrities. For this issue, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, and J.Lo are mainly featured. Races are evenly mixed, there is no gender dominance. Differently abled persons are not featured in this issue. Most of the celebrities are beautiful with curvy bodies, slim models, and well-built men. By society's standards, they would be termed as beautiful and handsome. No ugly people had their faces on the magazine. Most men and women in the magazine are attractive (hot) undoubtedly.

Description of the Women

Kelly Clarkson and Kim Kardashian are both facing forward. Kim's shot is a full body shot while Kelly's is a close-up shot. Kim is wearing a short dress, will slings exposing her shoulders and back. J.LO and Kanye West are also facing forward. J.Lo shot is a portrait along with his wife. Both are wearing coats and shirts. Kelly is dressed more decently than Kim because of the age difference. All the featured characters are from high-class societies implying no cultural difference of note.

Women’s and Men’s Sexuality

The penthouse ad features a well-dressed possibly rich man. This is rather emphasized on the unequal income distribution between men and women. Women are used as models in most ads, particularly the beauty product and auto motors section ads. Fair skin women are preferred to darker skin women in the ads. Slim-bodied women are also preferred to overweight and build women.

Lifestyle

Life and style magazine features high society lifestyles centered on the drama of celebrities, for both their personal and professional lives. Only the worst side is featured, which emphasizes the message that “even the rich cry.”
