Meditation and mindfulness are the state of being aware of ones surrounding due to purposefully and nonjudgmentally paying attention and focusing on situations unfold moment by moment. There are many forms of meditation, and one of these includes Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR). However, this is a science of mindfulness where an individual intentionally focuses on the present moment. Some of these mindfulness awareness practices include chanting, qigong, tai chi, yoga, mindfulness meditation and centering prayer. MBSR has been proven to have major benefits for the wellbeing of an individual.
The act of living in the present through mindful meditation has been proven to have a major impact on the functioning of the brain and immune system. It also comes with major interpersonal and psychological changes. According to study, the act of intentionally shaping ones internal focus in mindful practice induces activation of the brain. If this is done on a routine basis, then an intentionally created state eventually becomes an attached trait in an individual, resulting in long-term changes in the structure and functioning of the brain.

Mindfulness is good for one’s wellbeing because of the more aware we are of the present moment, the better we will be able to understand ourselves and enjoy life even more. Being aware of the present moment also enables us to start appreciating the things that we have been taking for granted. Mindfulness allows people to pay more attention to our thoughts. As such, it is now possible to see the pattern of our thoughts and feelings. More so, this enables people to notice when their feelings are taking over, giving us more control over ourselves. It is now much easier to deal will hard situations in our lives in a more productive manner. Being aware of yourself will also enable you to notice anxiety or stress is striking and be better positioned to deal with it.
In summary, mindfulness is an important aspect key to promoting personal wellbeing. Personally, I have been practicing MBSR, and this has helped reduce stress and anxiety.
