In the 21st century, many individuals have embraced the idea of psychotherapy as a treatment for mental disorders. However, in my society, this is not quite the case since most people suffering from such conditions are viewed as an abomination. It is very sad that individuals who suffer mental disorders have to hide while seeking this treatment or not get any at all. Without knowing it, the societies view on this treatment has led to a rise in mental cases. If only individuals suffering mentally could be viewed as normal human beings and embraced in society, they could be more confident to seek help. Hence, physiotherapists have been rendered useless in our community since patients are stigmatized and can’t seek help (Jongsma, 2014).

Stigma around Psychotherapy

Most individuals do not believe that psychological problems like anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder, and psychological stress and personality disorders. Whenever an individual in the community portly symptoms of these disorders, they are faced with criticism hence getting stigmatized (Babic, 2010). Often in some cases, society members with mental disorders are treated like outcasts as they are believed to be crazy or a bad omen. Such uncivilized behaviors have contributed greatly to the stigma around seeking psychotherapy in many communities. Individuals, therefore, prefer to suffer in since rather than getting help from a therapist.

Psychotherapy in the United States

In a society as civilized as the United States, psychotherapy has received quite the support. Most states of the US have fully embraced therapy while others still don’t approve of it. However, those who need of this treatment have higher chances since it’s readily available even though in secret. The trend is very popular to a point that parents often schedule their teenage children for therapy sessions whenever they show any sign of stress.

Such measures have helped mitigate situations that could have otherwise elevated to serious mental problems. With such an understanding from the society, cases of mentally disturbed people are few since symptoms were treated in early stages. Not only do mentally disturbed individuals in the United States seek therapy treatment freely but also once they get better the community accepts them. Alienation of mentally disturbed individuals is unnecessary and leads to deterioration of their condition. Therefore, every community should embrace individuals with such disorders as they do to those with other diseases.

Personal Opinion

Individually therapy is not very popular in our society hence limiting access for those who need it. Although just like many individuals in today’s world, an encounter with stressful situations is unavoidable. Hence, it would be important to seek therapy as a treatment instead of medical alternatives.
