Among African Americans, there is a stigma on mental illness among the black community. The primary strategy that can effectively combat the issue is having an open conversation among peers. Many African Americans are suffering because of the fear of speaking out, and others lack people to talk to about their issues. The stigma associated with mental illness in the black community is wide ranging from witchcraft to instability in life. The story of many African Americans is that of resilience and perseverance. The notion is that the African Americans were victorious on slavery, and hence the mental issue is something small that they can easily handle ("National Council for Behavioral Health," 2019). The problem is that the black community people fail to recognize it is something more significant that being anxious and has nothing to do with being weak. Weakness is among the stigmatization of mental illness in the black community.

Studies indicate that in every five Americans, there is one who is suffering from mental illness. Such statistics show how serious the issue is in the society since the African Americas are 20% likely to report more distress that leads to mental illness than the whites ("National Council for Behavioral Health," 2019). The factor of stigmatization may negatively affect my functioning in the work of responding to psychopaths. Because fewer African Americans will be willing to seek assistance, they feel anxious or depressed. There is a high likelihood for the African American community's mental illness cases to increase due to the stigmatization. Fatality will be increased as people will commit suicide instead of seeking help. However, the information on mental health stigmatization is critical in responding to psychopaths as it is a platform for creating awareness and starting a campaign to end the stigmatization.
