Corporate social responsibilities theories are advanced to define the ethical considerations of a company to make profits. Both Friedman and Carroll emphasize that the goal of making a profit should be the first priority of any business that is competing in a free market; nonetheless, they disagree on the point of philanthropy. Friedman insists that philanthropic activities should not be engaged in since this is an unreasonable expenditure of corporate funds while Carroll, on the other hand, underpins that philanthropy is necessary through giving back to the society in which the business is established and thriving ( Örtenblad, 2016) . The corporate social responsibility adopted by Mercedes Benz follows Carroll’s view of corporate social responsibility as they are engaged in giving back to the society as discussed.
