Introduction

It is imperative that students learn in the best way possible. But what happens to those students that study hard but just seem to not excel in school? Could it be that they are academic dwarfs hence cannot grasp content or academic material? Well, a good part of the learning responsibility of any student rests with the teachers. It is up to the teachers to teach students metacognitive ways of learning so they may experience a smooth and proper way of learning (Halim, 2017). It is in this regard that key videos and material have been produced to elaborate to teachers the best way of going about the teaching of metacognition to their students.

The Universal Principles in providing guidance in relation to the development of training that lead to the transfer of learning remain exclusively important towards the learning experience. It is chilling how most people go through years of schooling but end up with very little understanding of the learning and development (Halim, 2017). The principles thus elaborate on the key areas that one must focus on for them to grasp through content and end up with a true understanding of the inner relationships among context. The principles insist that there are different types of knowledge that include declarative knowledge, procedural knowledge and conceptual knowledge.

Among the three, the last, conceptual knowledge is what most people need and should thus strive to achieve. However, many end up with declarative and procedural knowledge where they can define things and follow up steps to make some but cannot fully endeavour what lies beneath the surfaces of the definitions (Smithsonian Science Education Center, 2015). It is well to appreciate that the principles to learning guide one or people towards achieving the true end of learning that is education or rather knowledge (Halim, 2017). A teacher is in a far much better position to help their students acquire conceptual knowledge if they understand the principles of learning.

The Five step Training Model in helping develop a training session that supports objectives of an organization

According to Shaw (2015), the five-step model for structuring a training session provides persons with instant successful sessions of learning. The above holds truth because it enables people to become more familiar and comfortable with its use as well as the incorporation of other elements into the same model picking from their experiences and observations. The five-step training procedure includes the following systematic steps, rationale, objectives, activities, and evaluation.

The rationale helps learners appreciate what it is they should learn and whatever is presented to them (Shaw, 2015). It is thus tied to the principle of readiness. The state of a learner knowing that they should learn something makes it possible for them to vastly explore and understand it better. The instructor tells the learner what awaits them hence preparing them psychologically (Halim, 2017). Setting objectives proceeds to ensure that there is a proper reason for learning and as such people are able to stick to a given timeframe and system of learning. Activities ensure that the set objectives are met at the appropriate and required time. Furthermore, the learner is able to actively participate in the process of learning (Halim, 2017). It is further assured that such activities enable the learning process to fulfil the whole learning entirety.

How Metacognition factor takes in effect to effective training and transfer of learning

Dr. Bonnie Rush in the video “A Focus on Teaching: Metacognition”, metacognition refers to the ability or awareness of self in the endeavour to recognise what a person knows (KSUCVM, 2014). It is thus a path towards understanding. It takes in effective training as well as the transfer of knowledge via five main ways that include the setting of goals, continuous monitoring, and identification of what is known, identification of what is not known and adapting as necessary. It is imperative to the entire process of training as long as one follows the aforementioned steps.

The effect of setting goals in the training process is to create need for the process of learning via training. Therefore, a person goes through the training program with the idea of what they should attain from the whole process. It thus gives a purpose for the same. The second step of continuous monitoring sees the training process become effective because it serves to make sure the learners understand the concept and principal content (KSUCVM, 2014). It is a check-up process that allows the growth of the learner in gaining metacognition.

Identification of what is known and that which is not, is proper in effecting the entire process because it sees the learner proceed with knowledge of areas of weakness and those of strengths. Therefore, one is in a better position to learn as they focus greatly on areas they are weak and spend time improving their strengths thus having an overall development. The effective learning only comes with the identification of self so that the teacher will be able to proceed with a proper understanding of what they need to have.

Strategies from Biology focused metacognitive article to be implemented in organizational training

The key strategies that can be obtained from the biology and applied to organizational training include self-questioning, concept mapping and annotated drawings. Self-questioning is a crucial strategy because it ensures the learner grasp proper understanding of information by relating questions to situations (Patrick, 2017). Therefore, the student is able to place themselves in puzzling situations and relate theoretical knowledge to the situation and thus get the main concept underneath everything.

Concept mapping is another key strategy that may suit properly when applied to corporate training because it entails the drawing of main concepts to certain points. Concepts are drawn to their meaning via cognitive interpretation allowing the trainees to become creative and develop solutions that are probable to solve whatever problem is presented to them. The method or rather the strategy is highly efficient because it ensures the learner is in a position to develop their information and solve a query.

The last most efficient strategy that could be used to ensure that the training proceeds successfully is the annotated drawing (Patrick, 2017). Annotations are drawn to speak about the main points in regards to a certain information or particular objective. The student is able to jot down the main points and principal things that relate with a certain procedure allowing the safe and quick interpretation of detail that will facilitate the easy movement of or rather easy transfer of learning from one to another (Patrick, 2017). It is also very well to include the fact that the process goes a long way in determining the effectiveness of learning in a person.

Conclusion

The learning process is vast and lengthy and requires a lot of input for one to succeed. However, the process can be simplified by the application of proper methods and strategies that will see the actuation of learning among students. In this regard, a good number of learners must appreciate the metacognition strategies laid out in documentaries and written materials to ensure they acquire conceptual knowledge that is the ultimate knowledge for every one learner. The strategies further allow for the development of training programs that ensure the entire growth of people intellectually and mentally.
