Tracy, 10-year-old student
The primary challenge that Tracy faces is pressure from his family. The force is mostly concentrated on his school performance. The next problem that the ten-year-old faces are the drastic drop in his performance at school. The downturn has caused him to have depression and stress. Furthermore, Tracy has withdrawn himself from the usual activities he used to enjoy. The withdrawal has led to his loneliness and contributed to his poor grades at school.
One of the psychological conflicts involved is the approach-avoidance conflict. In Tracy's perspective, the force from his parents in his academic life has both desirable and undesirable qualities (Aupperle, Melrose, Francisco, Paulus, & Stein, 2014). In this case, the undesirables are more and are therefore affecting Tracy's academic performance. Tracy is almost transitioning into adolescence, according to his age. The period is delicate and any excess pressure exerted on a child may ruin their social lives. The same case is happening to Tracy.

The theory of personality development involved is the psychoanalytic theory. The unconscious human mind has some needs and desires that shape people's behavior. Social pressures are one of the factors that affect personality and behavior in the psychoanalytic theory (Elliott, 2015). The approach helps in understanding Tracy's reaction to his parents' pressure on him regarding his academics. As a child who is getting exposed to the outer environment, Tracy has to make individual decisions and conform to a particular trend of behavior. His need for freedom leads to his failure in class when freedom is taken away from him.
The first step in helping Tracy out of the situation is to create awareness to him why his education is important to him. Secondly, Tracy needs advice on his attitude towards the pressure that his parents are exerting on him in his academics. He needs to develop a positive attitude that will enable him to see the relevance of the pressure to his academics. The last step is to guide Tracy's parents on how to make sure the exerted force on Tracy's academic performance does not ruin him.
