Although students in the three institutions of learning do not have a significant difference in their ages, there is a considerable variation in how they view the school environment as well as their academic life. From middle school to college, most students fall between the ages of nine and twenty. It is also important to mention that a majority of students are in the adolescence stage, a factor that affects the way the students interact with each other in the three academic levels. In this article, I will also use my own experiences to describe how it felt like to be in middle school and high school and compare with how I find my experience in college.
To begin with middle school, it is a time when a majority of students are entering adolescence. It is a period when everyone is concerned about the new body changes. As a result, boys and girls may separate themselves and form friendships with only members of the same sex. In regard to academic life, students are not concerned about the management of the school rather; they tend to be only concerned with their performance. The name of the school may not be very important to them (Gravetter & Wallnau, 2016). When I was in middle school, I was only concerned about doing well in my academics so that I could join a good high school. Majority of students did not care about comparing themselves with other middle schools around especially in regard to academic performance. Even in other co-curricular competitions, winning or losing did not mean much. Additionally, most students in middle school are not sure of what they want to become in future. Although there is an urge to improve in academics, it is mostly for comparison purposes with their peers.

High school finds a majority of students in their prominent stage of adolescence. While many students are not comfortable forming friendships with members of the opposite sex in middle school, the high school stage makes students to adore each other. It is a period where students begin to discover themselves. While in middle school emphasis is placed on improving on weak subjects, students in high school discover their strengths and weaknesses. This discovery makes students to think about what they would want to specialize in the future. Additionally, students in high school attach a lot of importance to their schools (Hall, 2016). That means that the name of the school matters. As a result, most students will try to protect the legacy of the school, especially is it is known to excel in a certain aspect, particularly in sports. Lastly, students in high school also get interested in the way their school is run. If they feel that the management is not running the school properly, they may come in solidarity and protest.
College finds most students in their latest stages of adolescence. A significant number of students will have figured out what they want to specialize in. While middle school and high school periods students can make friendship with anyone, it is different for college students. In college, students will try to form friendships with people who share the same traits or goals (Gravetter & Wallnau, 2016). These friendships are not limited to just the same gender but even with the opposite gender. That means that students no longer just adore each other but try to see the significance of each other. Academic competition is not so much rather; a majority of students try to form themselves into groups. Additionally, students also become sensitive to the way the administration deals with their affairs.
