Technology is advancing to even greater levels daily. The corresponding effect is that modern tech companies in return face the challenge to keep up with this growth. The only way that these tech companies can achieve long-term success is primarily dependent on their ability to understand the changing patterns and adapt their technology releases according to the trends (Williams, 2015) . The ability of tech companies to understand the trends in technology and duly act on them to disrupt the market is key to the companies’ competitive advantage.

For instance, the field of AI technology is the one that is increasingly advancing, and it promises great opportunities for exponential growth. From having Alexa with a face, an Iron Man-like Jarvis, and doorbells that have an avatar that can respond to visitors, there is limitless growth that companies can take advantage of (Ericsson.com, 2016) . This paper focuses on the minimum essential features that technology must convey visually for it to be viewed as "realistic" to those who interact with it.

The first key feature that tech companies should leverage to make their technology ‘realistic’ is having an enhanced cloud architecture that has the capability of distributing and sharing intelligence. With the advancement of AI when it comes to knowledge management, big data analytics, and machine learning, there is just so much that can be achieved using smart machines. Companies should focus on developing cloud technologies and connectivity, which translates to ease of sharing machine intelligence at lower costs. Having systems on the cloud makes it possible to have communities of machines, robots, and sensors that can collaborate in processing and sharing information. This shared knowledge base goes a long way in enhancing the performance and effectiveness of the system. It also makes it possible for tech companies to produce low-cost and lightweight robots that are easy to operate.

Another feature that would make technology more ‘realistic’ to the user is having self-managing devices. Tech companies should focus on combining different AI techniques with sensory data to allow for a higher level of interaction. Such services could greatly change our lives. For instance, picture a garage door that opens automatically when your car is in the vicinity. These self-managing and autonomous devices are great for the user because they have a low cost of monitoring and management (Avis, 2015). A proper combination of AI and sensory data makes it possible to come up with technology that allows for more effective and accurate interactions. For instance, tech companies can develop a massive machine-type communication that supports over a million connected devices, saving heavily on cost.

The evolution of communication such that it goes beyond sound and sight is another feature that allows for ‘realistic’ technology. Today, people mainly use 2D communication to connect and interact with each other. However, as technology evolves, we expect to see a situation where people can attend family gatherings and even engage in distant meetings through augmented 3D technology. Emerging technologies such as virtual reality augmented reality, and tactile internet, which is supported by the 5G network proves that the ability to attend an event virtually and still have the full experience is a feasible reality (Avis, 2015) .

Finally, tech companies should also focus on weaving privacy and security into IoT technologies. As technological advancements increasingly shift people’s financial and personal data online, there is a need for deeper consideration of cyber privacy and security. This can be accomplished in three different levels: an adaptive security posture, actual security controls, and security analytics (Williams, 2015) . Building technology on trusted networks is vital for promoting joint development, standardization, and widespread collaboration.
