For a long time, I have had a desire to move through the nursing ranks to become an expert in the nursing profession. As at now am at the lowest level the novice going by the Dreyfus Model of Skill Acquisition, which means that I have to go through four more stages to become a nursing expert. At this level, I can only handle minor tasks considering that I have no experience. The fact that I have to wait for instructions from others makes me feel that I am not giving all my best. Moreover, at the novice level, I tend to feel inflexible and unlimited as I have to rely on universal rules which do not case specific (Fitzpatrick & Gripshover, 2016). However, not all is lost since I believe that I can move from this rank to become a nursing expert. I plan to join the nurse residency program at the hospital since research shows that such programs help increases a newly registered nurse retention, job satisfaction, and performance (Mcguinn, 2014). Additionally, the residency program will help me deal with the challenges at the novice level such as lack of confidence, prioritization, and time management. Consequently, I will gain the right skills mix to transition from the novice level to the expert level.
The online instructor is considered an integral part when it comes to the transmission of information aimed at improving the quality of clinical experience. As such, it is important for the instructor to create a good environment which allows for such a transmission. For one, the instructor should use professional language which allows learners to interact with the nursing profession in an effective manner (Niederitter et al, 2017). Moreover, the instructor should be culturally correct considering that he is dealing with students drawn from various cultures across the world. Additionally, the instructor needs to use several modes of teaching including theory and practical oriented to help the students become more competent
