Middle school years are important to students’ high school success as they find the direction they want their lives to take and acquire skills for guidance in the world. Therefore, transitioning to middle school should be taken seriously by the concerned parties to develop strategies to aid the transition. Rick Wormeli, a national education consultant, develops five mindsets for educators to design a successful transition program to incorporate the new middle school students. They include comprehending students' concerns about acceptance, empathizing with students, understanding the groups’ characteristics, being optimistic, and create hope for the students.

In the article, Wormeli presents his ideas about the five strategies educators should apply during students' transition to middle school in a systematic manner that allows the reader to follow easily. Every concept is introduced in an understandable format as it guides the reader to the next part. In addition, Wormeli uses rhetorical questions to shape how the reader thinks about the topic being addressed. He also goes into detail by providing real-life examples of how an educator should act to enhance a particular strategy. For example, to build hope, instructors should understand what goes on in the students' minds and paint a clear picture of what students should expect.

Additionally, the arguments by Wormeli are valid, and I agree with his position on the topic. Students in middle school experience many changes, including bones growing faster than muscles, girls are maturing more quickly than boys, increased hormones, and brain development. All these changes are critical to how the students will tackle life in the future. Thus, developing a self-efficacy model, which allows the students to build autonomy and not dependency, is essential. In addition, instructors need to develop a successful transition model to create a suitable environment for the students to build and have a positive picture.

In conclusion, the article has provided essential knowledge of how critical middle school is and how educators might use the five strategies to help students transition. Wormeli describes his strategies in depth and engages the reader using rhetorical questions and real-life examples, which provide strength to the article. In addition, the issues raised in the article have provided insight into how the transition to middle school is essential to students. The transition strategies should also be reviewed to improve the current transition system.
