“Best Dance Children 2018” is a video that depicts children’s music and dance. The video features children dancing to an upbeat tempo. Children’s music tends to be full of hope, positive feelings, and happiness. From the video, one notices that the children are excited and are connected to the song’s words, rhythm, and beat. These features were common in the African culture. Africans made songs that depicted the community’s mood. For example, children’s songs had an upbeat tempo since Africans believed that children were God’s blessings and always happy. Children’s music and dance have the three patterns present in the African culture: rhythm, short bits of melody, and intent and pattern. 

One of the vital features of children’s music and dance is rhythm . The artist is in sync with the beat, and the children are dancing in harmony with the song’s beats (Dreams House Dance Academy, 2017). This feature was common in African communities. Also, the upbeat tempo indicates that it is a dance song. Sub-Saharan African music featured polyphony texture , meaning made songs that simultaneous lines with independent melodies. The same feature is evident in this video since the artist constantly changes the texture to entertain the children.

Another feature is the use of melodies . In the video, the children can sing along since they use short bits of melody (Dreams House Dance Academy, 2017). This strategy allows the children to understand the words the artist sings. Short and simple melodies were common in the African community. Africans made music that comprises of short bits melody that was repeated over time. In the children’s dance video, the artist repeats certain words and melodies so that the children can easily dance to and pay attention to the song. Although the singer changes the melodies, there is a smooth transition that allows children to connect the song to the original melody. 

Besides, the children’s songs have intent and pattern . The video shows the children dancing in lines in an organized manner (Dreams House Dance Academy, 2017). Africans used to sing in rounds and initiating dance styles that reflected their moods. The same approach is evident in the children’s song. For example, when the song uses the trumpet to produce certain sounds, the children put their hands in the air depicting the instrument. Even without listening to the words, a person can notice the song’s theme and instruments used.
