As a child, I was fascinated by the natural world. While my friends were busy playing with their new toys and video games, I was out there in nature playing with my dog. Being an inquisitive person, I began studying various books on the natural environment. Nowadays, I realize that biology is an extensive discipline and I make an effort to educate myself on the various disciplines under biology. A biology is a form of experimental science,curious biologists have the potential of discovering new ideas and concepts that could improve human life, which encourages me to pursue biology at a degree level.
During my A-level studies, I was intrigued by different biology modules. The module on ecosystems was particularly interesting as it taught me about biotic and abiotic components that interact in an environment. I found biology lessons captivating, and I took time to read about different biological concepts at home. The biology lab became a haven for me, I spent a lot of free time in the biology lab looking through preserved organisms and biology projects. My passion and commitment to the subject led to my role as a “biology prefect.” As a biology prefect, I organized meetings whereby students interested in the subject could share their ideas and learn new concepts. I also helped other students who were struggling with biology.

I also excelled in Mathematics and Chemistry. Chemistry and biology are related in a way in that they are both experimental sciences. The practical elements of chemistry equipped me with adequate skills for conducting scientific experiments. Similarly, mathematics equipped me with logical problem-solving skills. Mathematics teaches analytical skills that are useful to any scientist. I believe my interest and knowledge in Mathematics and Chemistry will come in handy in my studies and in my career as a biologist.
Research shows that well-rounded individuals excel in their studies, careers, and in life. I participated in various extracurricular activities during high school. I was a member of the debate team, where we competed against each other and against other local schools. The debate club equipped me with public speaking skills, communication skills, and critical thinking skills. I learned to express my point well, even when under pressure. A debate club is an environment that nurtures intellectuals, and I look forward to being a part of your institution’s debate club.
I am also keen on sports and outdoor pursuits, I have enjoyed a wide range of outdoor activities from camping to mountain climbing. Outdoor activities bring us into contact with the natural environment. They are also socializing events that bring together individuals from various walks of life. After all, colleges are not only institutions for learning, rather they are social institutions that enable students to form new relationships by participating on shared interests. I have developed ample social skills from the activities and social events that I have taken part in, I believe I am a confident individual that will excel in both my school and social life.
