My desire to undertake a Masters’ degree in Elementary Education at the University of Kentucky is linked to my philosophy of education. I believe that education is a fundamental necessity to every child and should be offered equally without gender or race discrimination. The quality of education that students get in class should be same to give them equal power in the job market and opportunities to trigger innovations ( Phillips, 2008) .That can be achieved through creating a conducive environment for learning and making the activity enjoyable throughout the academic journey.
Parents and teachers are the primary stakeholders in the learning activity. Therefore, their contribution is mandatory and traceable from the beginning to the end of the journey. Parents should not hesitate to provide the support needed for the child to in school. Teachers, on the other hand, must ensure their input is delivered in the right manner to mold the life of a pupil. The community comes in to teach the child moral ethics and how to relate to other people ( Phillips, 2008) . In the society, a person must be able to live with others peacefully by using the knowledge gained in class to enhance development. Hence, teachers, parents and the community form the structure of education necessary for a child to acquire knowledge efficiently.

Having undertaken an undergraduate degree course in Psychology, I understand the effect of a good teaching style in class. How a teacher presents information to students determines the rate of understanding in class. Lecturing without active discussions and practice leads to having a dormant class. Students have no option but to cram the course context with the aim of passing their exams. At the end of a learning period, the teacher should evaluate the students to measure the degree of understanding for every topic. That will help them apply the theoretical knowledge learned in class in the workplace.
The nature of my degree which I majored in early childhood development enables me to deal with children who have different disparities in learning. The facilitator or rather activity style is the teaching method I would propose to be used by teachers during the early development stages of a child. It is an approach that promotes self-learning and development of critical thinking skills. Children are more likely to retain a high percentage of the knowledge and possess self-actualization. The main advantage articulated to this method of teaching is that students get to ask questions and conduct intensive research to find solutions for numerous problems ( Phillips, 2008) . However, the style has a disadvantage of limiting teachers’ interaction with students to give them facts and later evaluate them for the ability to memorize. Regular assessments should be done to ensure that children are conversant with the information.
The experience gained when I was working at Walt Disney World, an organization that involves early child development practices at Kilimanjaro Safaris improved my ability to monitor and interact with the kids. Many educational institutions fail because of lack misunderstandings. A teacher must be able to identify children’s disabilities and formulate strategies on how to handle them. In class, there are first learners and slow learners, yet both of them attend to similar assessment tests. Therefore, it is the obligation of the teacher to ensure that all the students are within the same level of understanding before giving an examination. Ultimately, my goal is to turn a class into an interaction session where students can exchange ideas and facts to enhance change in the society.
