One of the weaknesses I have is paragraph balance. I need to practice and find a way to correctly combine the three parts needed for a perfectly balanced paragraph. These parts are; claim, evidence and analysis. I need to start with a claim, this is a topic sentence; it highlights the main focus of a paragraph. Claims can be thought of more as small arguments that support the papers thesis statement. The next part is evidence; this part backs the claim. It is what helps prove the claim. Additionally, relevant sources can be added here to back the evidence. The last part is analysis, how one concludes the paragraph; this part explains why the evidence supports the claim (University of Maryland Global Campus, n.d.). If these three factors are applied as they should be, I will no longer face this challenge.
The second weakness I face is flow. Flow is how all the aspects of a paper come together. It is ensuring that all the paragraphs follow the right order and are structured properly. For me to have a paper that flows, the paragraphs should be connected to make it easy for the reader to follow. All the paragraphs should have a clear stated purpose which reinforces the topic of the paper. Readers will better understand my ideas if I aim for continuity in words, concepts, and thematic development from the opening statement to the conclusion. A paper that does not have flow appears disorganized and inconsistent (American Psychological Association, 2019). A lot of my past papers lacked flow, but now I am perfecting this.

The last weakness is not always using a professional tone. According to American Psychological Association (2019), it is important to use language that conveys professionalism and a certain level of formality. For instance when one is writing an argumentative paper, they must present their opinions in a professional manner that is non-combative. It is also important to avoid contractions and colloquialisms as they take away from a professional tone (115). I have been battling with contractions, but the more I write and take note the better I get. Also, I now have a better understanding of what a professional tone is and I am applying what I learn.
