Although there exist several neoanalytic therapy techniques, the best of them all is Carl Jung’s version of Psychotherapy. It is imperative to note that all the methods are variations of Freud’s psychoanalytic theory. It means that several scholars analyzed Freud’s approach and came up with modifications. Freud’s theory analyses the connection between the conscious and unconscious aspects of human beings (Beutler, 2014). Freud realized that people past experiences affected their mental wellbeing. Therefore, by having such individuals narrate their past experiences, the therapists would know the kind of therapy to offer. Previously, psychotherapists began giving recommendations to patients without listening to their past encounters. This narration of repressed memories is what experts refer to as the personal unconscious that Jung does not dispute.

Nevertheless, Jung modifies Freud’s theory by adding another aspect, which he calls the collective or transpersonal unconscious. This proposition is in fact what caused him to split with Freud after working with him for several years. The collective unconscious is a level of the unconscious that is shared by many members of the human species and constitutes of memories from the ancestral as well as the evolutionary past (McCaulley, 2013). They are symbols that people are born with, and their interpretation is the same across many societies in the world. Some examples could be fear of snakes, spiders, and darkness, among others. Such images that have universal meaning are known as archetypes.

Conclusively, unlike Freud’s technique that analyses only past experiences, Jung’s method investigates patients’ present behaviors too. Patients are asked to talk about their dreams as well as their daily experiences. Jung’s technique is superior because it has a broad way of examining patients with mental disorders. On the contrary, Freud assumes that only past experiences affect people’s well-being and not their daily experiences, which arguably is incorrect. The process of conducting psychoanalysis ought to be conclusive so that the correct therapy can be offered.
