Question 6

The concept-based teaching and learning closely relate with the New York State Education Department Framework as they both teach students concepts using a cross-disciplinary approach. In both concept-based teaching and NYSED Framework, writing and reading are the strong components utilizing the spiral approach and encourage a steady increase in texts' complexity. These two frameworks have a primary objective and aim of developing students that are career and college ready by encouraging close reading, extended writing and discussion. The two approaches also aim to develop great thinkers ready to tackle issues and solve modern world problems.

The two frameworks furthermore encourage the importance of literacy across all the subjects undertaken by students. These two approaches respond to an increasing need for the students to be adequately prepared for higher education learning. The increasing need for adequate preparation is because higher education learning mainly focuses on the informational texts written academically. The concept-based teaching and learning and the NYSED framework establishes balanced literacy and increases learners' exposure to informational texts as they progressively learn.

Question 7

How social studies framework can implement for bilingual and English language learners struggling with text complexity and how the framework accounts for students living with disabilities are some of the questions I have. These two groups of learners are the ones struggling to meet the expectations of the standard. The social studies framework does not best serve these two groups of individuals, as they may not reason and process information with other education peers. During state examinations, these students may struggle to pass the examination. For these students to excel, the contents need to be simplified to make learning attainable and make lessons relevant.
