The article Nick Cave Introduces The Gospel of Mark provides readers with an in-depth understanding of the life of Jesus Christ. Nick Cave takes the readers through the accounts and events surrounding Jesus Christ’s life during his time on earth, “Throughout Mark, Christ is in deep conflict with the world”. While going through the article I am able to understand the Gospel of Mark with more clarity and gain insight on the significance of the biblical book. Nick Cave’s analysis of the book of Mark demonstrates how Jesus Christ was misunderstood by the people around him, including his disciples. Cave explains that, “Even His disciples, who we would hope would absorb some of Christ's brilliance, seem to be in a perpetual fog of misunderstanding, following Christ from scene to scene with little or no comprehension of what is going on.” From this assertion it is evident that although the disciples of Christ followed him around and witnessed the miracles he performed, they still not have a clear understanding of who he was or his purpose on earth.

The article by Nick Cave reminds us of the oppression and suffering that Jesus Christ had to undergo during his time on earth in order to fulfill his purpose. Nick Cave’s article enables us to understand the challenges and opposition that Jesus Christ had to endure in his attempt to spread the love of God to human beings. For instance, in Mark 1:13 Jesus Christ “was there in the wilderness 40 days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.” This verse gives us an example of some of the sufferings that Jesus Christ had to endure to fulfill his purpose. From the book of Mark, Christians learn that Jesus Christ’s life was one that was pure, intense and purposeful. Thus, from the Gospel of Mark, Christians can understand how Jesus Christ was persecuted and withstood the prejudice against him to fulfill the role that God had bestowed on him here on Erath.
