In recent years, NASA has been able to send a rocket to hit the moon at a cost of enormous millions of dollars with the objective of assessing whether there is any water ice in the crater near the moon and the South Pole. Nevertheless, there are a few trillion gallons of water on Earth yet to undergo exploration. Additionally, the tsunami, which did devastate Japan, with the best tsunami-warning system in the world, had only 20 minutes of warning. The purpose of this research essay is to explore the need for increased investment in research programs by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to facilitate exploration of the yet to undergo exploration areas of the ocean and space. The mission of NOAA is to facilitate effective and efficient understanding and prediction of the changes in the climatic, oceans, weather, and coasts, thus, the platform to share this knowledge and information with others. From this perspective, the mission of the institution aims at addressing the greatest challenges such as climate change or global warming, severe weather conditions, natural and human-induced disasters, ocean acidification, and declining aspects of biodiversity. There is a substantive need to engage in investing in the NOAA’s projects and programs with the intention of gaining resilient ecosystems, economies, and communities (Morello, 2013). Realization of resilient ecosystems, economies, and communities is essential in the maintenance and improvement of the health and vitality of the society members through anticipation, as well as absorption and eventual diffusion of change. One of the growing menaces in modern society is the influence of global warming, which associates with the increase in global temperatures. It is valuable to engage in the adoption and implementation of practices, as well as approaches to minimize the impact or influence of global warming on the environment or ecosystem. Increased investment in the NOAA programs will provide the platform for the exploration of diverse issues relating to global warming, thus, the opportunity to oversee the mitigation of the influences of climatic change (Eilperin, 2012). From this perspective, the programs will be ideal in enabling climate adaptation and mitigation through improving the knowledge and awareness of the society members on the climatic issues and changes. The projects or programs will be ideal for the generation of an informed society with the ability and potential to anticipate, as well as respond to climatic issues and implications. In recent years, there continues to develop unhealthy oceans because of the industrial aspects and elements. Evidently, it is critical for the ecosystem to have healthy oceans for the growth and development of the current and future components of the environment. Healthy oceans will have the ability and platform to sustain marine fisheries, biodiversity, and habitats within healthy, as well as productive ecosystems. Research programs and projects in these areas will be ideal for the generation of weather-ready nations or economies with the ability to prepare and respond to diverse weather-related events. Conclusively, the essay sought to explore the need for increased investment in research programs by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to facilitate exploration of the yet to undergo exploration areas of the ocean and space. According to the findings of this essay, it is ideal to generate an informed society on the deteriorating weather and climatic issues. For instance, it is ideal to generate a society, which will have the opportunity to anticipate and respond to weather-related issues and events such as tsunamis. The approach will be ideal for the improvement of the health of society through enhanced awareness concerning weather and climate issues.
