Question 1

Boyd’s definition of Non-Negotiable Truths is true as it talks of the basic truths providing Christian belief (2013). As such, the definition has managed to distinguish truths from the potentially divisive issues compromising the concept of “non-negotiable” truths. According to Greg Boyd, “non-negotiable truths” is all about the basic storyline of Scripture as is used throughout churches around the globe (2013). Historical view of the church looks at truth from the point of view of creation, the fall, the redemption, the eschaton, and the final hope. Indeed, non-negotiable comes into play with regard to the basic Scripture storyline as it unfolded in the past and what is bound to happen in the near future. The Bible talks of “non-negotiable truths” that cannot be denied or bend for one’s personal interests because it unfolds in accordance to God’s will.

Question 2

The three men are evangelical leaders from different generations with a shared theology and thus, hold varying “Biblical Worldview.” Chuck (traditional evangelical), Boyd (scholar), and Claiborne (movement leader) have managed to live out their lives despite their varying professions. This has resulted in them interpreting the bible from different viewpoints. Boyd’s worldview is closest to mine because he manages to give biblical backing to Claiborne’s statement while Chuck is more grounded in political experience (Tippett, 2008). His ground has made him loose touch with Biblical themes with regard to certain issues like peacemaking, justice, and non-violence. As an individual with a liberal opinion, I move closer to Claiborne’s arguments because the degrees of separation in question are in line with my beliefs. He is a real person and presents arguments that many people can refer to because they are related to the experiences of many people around the globe. The other issue is that he uses very interesting examples that touch on what people can relate to in a world filled with competition, greed, and corruption.
