There are several reasons why I am more inclined to eat unhealthy foods even though I am cognizant of its impacts and also know that there is a better choice. One of the main reasons is that I might have to cut back on things that I like. Fast foods are very addictive, and it is cheaper and less time consuming to get access to fast foods compared to cooking and consuming healthy food or obtaining healthy foods from a restaurant. Another reason is that eating healthy foods is usually cumbersome and inconvenient as I have to be conscious of the number of calories in a particular food or the nutrients present in them. I am busy most of the time and do not have the time to do thorough research on my food intake. In addition, I am not fond of eating healthy because I do not like vegetables. In contrast to foods like meat, vegetables do not taste as good, and I am thus fond of eating fast food and animal products because they provide great taste and comfort.

One of the main challenges that Americans face in regards to eating healthy foods is that food manufacturers use our biology against us by making very addictive foods. They conduct tests on humans by actively tweaking the ingredients of the foods in order to facilitate more addictive sensations towards the foods. Similarly, the manufacturers use psychology by making them easily accessible and cheap enough to get attention, thus ensuring that they are bought frequently and in bulk.

To mitigate or shield my family and me from being excessively vulnerable to the hyperpalatable foods, I would try to lead a healthy lifestyle by actively avoiding unhealthy foods and eating only foods that are deemed to be healthy. Similarly, I would educate my family members on the consequences of unhealthy eating and encourage them to eat healthy foods and lead healthy lifestyles.
