Following the continuous push to legalize marijuana in New York, lawmakers in New York did fall short in their undertaking to legalize the drug fully. According to Sen. Liz Krueger, the fight for the legalization of marijuana is far from over, and just a few delays are hindering the full legalization (McKinley & Wang, 2019) . However, relief came to the people of New York as the possession of the drug becomes decriminalized, thereby leading to expungement of the low-level convictions on marijuana.

Currently, people of New York have recovered from the many crimes attributed to them following the possession of marijuana. Now, when found in possession of small amounts of the drug, the punishment is fine and is considered as a violation rather than a crime (McKinley & Wang, 2019) . As it has been for a long time, the blacks and the browns have suffered many accusations and paid heavily on the marijuana endeavour. Now many cases regarding marijuana in the district attorney of New York have been regarded as low-level convictions, and many marijuana-related prosecutions have stopped. Furthermore, smoking marijuana in public now is considered as a violation as opposed to before when it was a misdemeanour. In addition, the decriminalization required records of marijuana convictions to be scrapped.

After speaking two of my friends, they both confirmed that the decriminalization brought relieve upon them. One said that the small amounts of marijuana helped he smoked helped him concentrate and relieve himself of the stress he has at home. Marijuana is known for its effects and considering that they are poor, the little marijuana he has helps him concentrate in class towards building his career. The other friend says that he now no longer lives in fear, and he has the confidence to face the police, and this has improved his self-esteem. Therefore, decriminalizing marijuana has helped students, as well as people, live freely without much fear.
