When referring to God, the term ‘Oneness’ is a state of living indivisibly and absolutely one. This means that God is undeniably only one in the numerical denomination, the same one God is Jesus, and God is more than a variety of individuals. Therefore, the modern term ‘Oneness’ is equal to modalism of the prehistoric theorists (Bernard & Stegall, 1990).

Individuals can achieve God’s desire for oneness by finding a group of people to study and practice the word of God with. It will enable them to maintain the discipline and the effort of spirituality as it is difficult to do this alone. Secondly, discovering something to commit to is also another way of practicing oneness. Committing deepens one’s spiritual life. For instance, living by the teachings and forms of Christianity expands Christians’ experiences afar from just themselves to an interconnected, more holistic, and manifestation of spiritual life.

Oneness is crucial in counseling the ethnically diverse as it encourages individuals to acknowledge individual differences as working with individuals from different cultures is one of the most significant ways to gain more knowledge about the universe. Furthermore, people will also learn how to set their biases aside.

Nonetheless, there are several opposition and barriers that counselors face when counseling people who are not of their race, culture, or ethnicity. For instance, an African American counselor may be stigmatized since he or she may not be considered to be quite skilled in that line of profession. Also, a counselor may get a client whose English is a Second Language; thus it will hinder efficient communication between the counselor and the client.

To put it simply, Jesus has every prerogative, attribute, and characteristic of God (Bernard & Stegall, 1990). In other words, Jesus is everything God is. Thus, people should aspire to live and fulfill God’s desire for humankind to live in Oneness.
