Hypothesis

The opinions of others and social pressure have a significant effect on personal opinions.

Summary

Social forces have been able to constrain the opinions of people due to the fear of being considered wrong by breaking what the society believes in. The society creates monotonous instructions which introduce a normal cause of involuntary responses among the people. At times, individuals do not follow social conformity and depend on acting by ignoring the opinions and social pressures resulting in pollution of the social process. The strength of social conformity is determined by the reasoning provided towards supporting some opinions. Various tests were used to determine conformity with a sample of participants. The tests were used to determine how social pressure affected the opinions of people through external manipulation. The responses seen by the individuals were variant with some agreed with the judgments of the majority while others did not. There is a gap of research which exists on the reasons that people respond differently, with some being confident enough to go against the opinions of the majority.

Implications

The study results can be used by individuals to establish whether they will allow social pressure and opinions affect their decisions. Some opinions may be helpful while the negative ones should be avoided; with a person following what they believe is right and not allowing the society to make decisions on their behalf.

Methodology Flaws

When the experiments were being carried out, the subjects were observed in single settings. It means that the results of the study were biased as they could be used in only one environment. The number of participants was also low, thus increasing the error margin. When investigating the effects of losing or gaining a partner, only twenty-five participants were used, and the results could not be used in a general situation.
