Currently, many factors influence the behaviors of adolescents, especially in this where any information can be accessed through the internet. Therefore, the article by Cook, Buehler, and Henson (2009) is important because it explores the extent to which parents and peers influence or deter the antisocial behavior among adolescent. Interestingly, based on the findings of the article, parents have a more significant influence on abstinence choice of adolescents. The study even found that even adolescent who have joined high school still depend on their parents more than their peers when they want to make decisions regarding anti-social behaviors. However, peers still have a substantial influence on the abstinence choices or behaviors or young people.

The study by Cook, Buehler & Henson (2009) also revealed that female adolescents are more likely to rely on both parents and peers in making deterrence choices than their male counterparts. On the contrary, male adolescents are likely to rely on peers as social influenced than female, especially when they are transitioning into middle adolescence. Hence, gender plays a role in choosing social influences among adolescents. Apart from gender, socioeconomic status of adolescents is also a determining factor in choosing social influences. Adolescents from low-income households are likely to choose peers as social influences while those from high-income families depend on their parents as social influences. Importantly, the article reveals that parents play an important role in influencing or determining the behaviors of their children. Consequently, parents should ensure that they properly guide their children, particularly concerning anti-social behaviors.
