The contemporary dispensation of technology and mediated communication allows instructors and tutors to relay information and receive feedback from students online. Nevertheless, online learning comes with its fair share of challenges that develop in the event the instructor’s pedagogical approaches become questionable. The use of improper pedagogical skills in online teaching can result to the loss of interest and psych by the learners as they find the lessons boring or even irrelevant to their personal goals. The paper provides several credible pedagogical approaches that would help instructors to stay relevant to the learners as well as making the learning sessions interesting.

Pedagogical approaches that improve engagement in online learning

One of the pedagogical approaches that an online instructor would consider is the use of contemporary communication technologies during learning sessions. Online learning is a new entity in teaching profession and is squarely anchored on technology. The use of correct technologies in learning helps the instructors to earn the interest of learners ( Baxter, Callaghan, & McAvoy, 2018). Credible packaging of information is another pedagogical approach that could assist the online instructor to earn learners’ attention and to have interesting learning sessions. The mode of packaging and presenting information for consumption by online learners is a vital element in online learning ( Dillon & Crummey, 2015) . Packaging of information entails the language that the instructor is using during learning and the learning aid that the instructor uses. Online instructors and tutors ought to use a kind of language that is easy for the learner to understand and comprehend ( Ringsmose & Kragh-Müller, 2016) . Online learning allows different students from different cultures to interact in the process of learning and therefore the language that the instructors decide to use during learning sessions should be considerate to all learners. Online instructors should therefore package the information they seek to relay in a language that online learners would comprehend with ease.

The online instructors would also consider contextualizing the content of their information with the current developments in the world’s job market. Such a pedagogical approach seeks to address relevance of the instructor’s content and match it with the demands of the contemporary market (Ringsmose et al, 2016). Every online student would want to be pursuing a relevant and competitive course. However, it is the responsibility of the instructor to show the learners the relevance of the information they are learning and the demand in the market. The pedagogical approach helps boost the focus of learners during learning and practice sessions and it is ideal in making the learning process interesting.

Another pedagogical approach the instructor would use during online learning sessions is mastery of persuasion and mode of presenting information, either through writing or orally. A credible online tutor would consider deploying quality persuasion skills during the process of relaying information. It involves the use correct language and mastery of the content being delivered ( Mikropoulos, 2018) . Online instructors who invest in interesting modes of presenting information earn attention and loyalty from online learners. For instance, the instructor might require cracking a joke at a certain stage of delivery to help learners ease out and comprehend information in a relaxed manner.

Application of contemporary communication technologies during online learning sessions helps to achieve the attention of the learners as information is relayed without delay. Online instructors would also curb boredom during online learning sessions if the package and disseminate their content in a more friendly manner to the learners. Moreover, the online instructor would make the learning more interesting and relevant to the learner if they contextualize the content being delivered with the demands of the market. Online students feel that the content being delivered is relevant if it identify with the needs of the job market.
