Participation in the ordinance of sacrament is very crucial in a Christian worship. On Easter Sunday, I attended a Catholic mass. This was my first time to attend a Catholic Sacrament of Holy Communion. The catholic mass always practice an open communion as a commemoration of the Passover feast Jesus held with his disciples. During the service, I witnessed the proceedings of the Holy Communion and I was impressed. The worship and praise songs were sung, the teachings about the sacraments were preached to the audience, and then prayers for commencement of the Holy Communion were offered. After the prayers, the priest took the “blood of Jesus” and the “the body of Christ” before presenting it to the audience. According to Catholics, it is believed that consuming the Blood and Body of Christ unites people more closely to God and allows us to grow in the Christian life and a grace of God.
I partook the Holy Communion and I felt nourished and strengthened in my expression of faith. I experienced a special spirit-filled moments during the service after taking the sacraments and improve my spiritual journey in a special way. I felt happiness in my heart and experienced comfort as l received the sacrament. I celebrated the Easter with joy and received peace within myself. These were the visible signs of God being poured down on me in a great way. I felt blessed with God’s unconditional love and his forgiveness upon my sins. From the teachings of the priest, I learned that sacraments provide us with the truth and make the truth become more part of us. I gained the understanding that sacrament provides us with the ability to experience God in our human condition and weakness and His touch. I was able to obtain the beautiful gifts of sacraments that were such a blessing for me to become closer to God. Therefore, the sacrament experience was very good and provided me with great encouragement to my faith and remind me of God’s love and care to me.
