Dear Sir/Madam
RE: MY CONCERNS ON COGNITIVE THEORY
I genuinely appreciate your work and knowledge addition in the field of psychology when you came up with the idea of thought theory. Based on your perception, your cognitive theory tries to build up a cognitive model of information process which revolves around an individual's mind. These are inclusive of language, memory, consciousness, and thinking. According to your theory, you claim that our thought is a mediator between the stimulus and the response behavior. You also believe that "Information processing in humans resembles that in computers, and is based on transforming information, storing information and retrieving information from memory.” What I would wish you to note through this letter is that all these are a critical contribution in the field of psychology. You have done well in expanding our knowledge to think critically on other theories on this area such as the behavior theory which states that the external stimuli entirely influence human behavior. However, I have some concerns which I would wish you to address and even if possible answer me concerning the cognitive theory.
My first concern which I would be happy if you address is the fact that you do not include the external stimuli in your account. In your mind, you only recognize the thought and its role of mediation between the stimuli and the behavior, however, you don't recognize the external environment in this case. Does it mean that human being is not affected by the external stimuli? Further, external stimulus can be measured and tied to specific behaviors. For instance, a child can copy what her mother does, and this can form part of her behavior. This means that external stimulus can be seen and measured. However, the mediation process which is core in your theory cannot be measured and be tied to behaviors; I can be wrong if I state that the mediation process as you states doesn't exist? I would appreciate if I can get a response to these concerns. Thank you.
