My strongest leadership trait is integrity. This entails doing the right thing even when no one is watching. I believe it is a crucial trait for leaders to set out a clear precedent for other members to follow. A leader who values integrity inspires others to act in ways that exude integrity. Among other traits I possess, I believe this to be my strongest one. This is because, without integrity, no real success is possible. As an honest leader, I always tend to stick to my word, live by my core values and principles, led by example and follow through. I also apologize for the mistakes I make. I have, in most instances, highlighted the work of my members while downplaying my efforts. Moreover, I'm always appreciative of people's time.
I believe in improving this trait further; I have to learn to give a benefit of doubt whenever circumstances are unclear. My biggest area of challenge in leadership is communication. I realize how crucial good communication skills are for leaders. I believe it starts with developing the art of listening (Peck, 2018). People always need to be heard; that is what makes them appreciate their leader. It makes them feel inspired and begin to trust you. Showing that I am concerned about people's personal stories makes them open up more and talk about their interests. I believe developing this leadership skill will help me get the best from my members. It will help me work efficiently with members by coordinating various activities to ensure we achieve set objectives. This particular skill is what differentiates a successful leader from others.
