Q1.
Personality denotes to one’s characteristic pattern or way of thinking, behavior, conduct, feeling and emotions. Personality is developed with time. Many psychologists postulate that one’s personality is developed right from their childhood experiences and how they go through the developmental stages. Personality is influenced by many factors, especially in one’s environment. Some psychologists, for instance Carl Jung, postulate that an individual’s personality grows constantly as they face new experiences and thoughts, whether they know or do not know that such thoughts and experiences shape their personality. Personality goes beyond our characters as outgoing, pessimistic, optimistic or even introverted. It is how one deals with and interact with their social surrounding and the limitations they have because of the influence from outside forces, for instance, government laws. Therefore, one nurtures their personality by examining their internal reactions with the external forces in the environment. Imperatively, one’s personality becomes the driving force behind their perceptions and perspectives to situations. For example, people with an outgoing and optimistic personality are open-minded and kind. They seek positivity in all their actions even if situations and people disappoint them. However, describing personality remains a debatable and research issue since no one can state that they have a precise definition.
Q2.
I would say that I have many personality traits or features that define me. I would say that different personality traits define that include charming, dominating, daring, discreet and admirable. I have also realized over the years that I am a highly open-minded person and when a good idea is floated, I always agree and offer my opinion to enrich it and use it in different situations. As I continue to mature over time and get life experiences, I have noticed that I am honest enough to admit my shortcomings and weaknesses. Further, I always seek to listen more than talk since I would rather gather ideas before I postulate my position on an issue. It follows that I prefer making an analytical overview of any situation that would present itself to me. Further, I am optimistic and believe that irrespective of a challenging situation, people can always find a common ground, especially if such debates are on a controversial issue in society. However, I want to state that despite my good attributes and personality traits, I also deal with some negative traits that define me. I would say that I am sometime impatient when faced with a difficult situation. Secondly, I am an abrasive and very critical of others, especially when they make mistakes in whatever they are doing. I rarely tolerate excuses and explanations in such situations. Finally, I believe in being responsible and accountable. When one makes a mistake, they should readily own up and accept to correct, unconditionally.

Q3.
I believe that I strive to maintain my personality in different situations. Further, my personality remains consistent under normal situations. Therefore, if an in a normal situation, my personality traits will remain the same and I would pursue my happiness as defined by these tenets or characteristics. Just like many people, different situations call for one to act in a totally different way. Imperatively, my personality may need to customize itself based on the prevailing situation. I prefer a situation that does not expose me so much or allows me to demonstrate my emotions or negative feelings towards a situation. I believe that having circumstances that allow one to express their ideas and opinions reduces chances of one going on the extreme and entertaining negative personality traits. Each person has two sides to their personality. Therefore, we cannot forget that sometimes, situations force one to act in a certain way and even forget the positive personality traits that they possess. I believe that situations have significant impact on how our personality develops and one may show, for instance, aggression, if under an attack. I cannot sit down and say that I am analytical and would examine the situation before reacting. I must react fast enough to save myself. Therefore, my personality traits change based on situations.
Q4.
According to many psychologists the main tenets of the psychoanalytic perspective of personality have three main components that include the ego, id, and the superego. In his theoretical perspective, Sigmund Freud states that the three tenets correspond to reason, desire, and conscience. For example, the id comprises of all primitive and innate urges, for example different bodily needs, sexual desire, and aggressive impulses. Most of the time, the id is unconscious and under the domination of the pleasure urge. In fact it demands immediate gratification and fails to consider the potential impact of these demands and desires. Secondly, the ego places some checks and balances on the id till situations permit the satisfaction of the impulses. Therefore, the ego operates in line with the principle of reality and considers potential external conditions and effects of the different actions, especially aimed at reducing pain and maximizing pleasure. Lastly, the superego represents one’s conscience and it acquired from parents and life experiences. Superego represents the internalization of moral teachings and societal norms’ understanding. However, flexibility in these teachings leaves some room for gratification of the desires and demands. It follows that one’s personality traits may conflict based on the tenets that define it and external influences.
