The personality of an individual is assessed best using Jung and the Gardner’s theories. Extraversion and introversion are two energy sources that significantly reflects an individual’s character and attitude. The attitude of an extrovert focuses and is energized by the surrounding world. On the other hand, the attitude of an introvert is generally directed towards their innermost world. Also, sensing as well as intuition are two different ways that an individual perceives information from the surrounding environment. Sensation is simply defined as the process through which an individual gets information from the outside environment while intuition is the process of perceiving information based on the internal feelings of a person. Another criterion of personality assessment is thinking and also feelings of a person which are critical in the evaluation of information. When an individual processes information through critical thinking, the decisions made are predominantly based on reasoning out the possible outcomes of the decision (The Basics of Jung's Typology, n. d., p.1). On the other hand, when a person makes decision though emotional feelings, the decision made is predominantly based on emotions instead of reasoning. The final personality criterion for assessing the personality of a person is perception and also judgment. The two preferences significantly determine the reactions of a person in the process of executing an action plan. Every personality has different strengths and can impact the careers, ways of communication as well as how a person relates with others.

The personality of an individual can greatly assist in identifying and assessing their personality as well as the right career that a peson can choose. According to Jung’s Typology Test, I was able to extravert the intuitive feeling perception for personality type (The Basics of Jung's Typology, n. d., p.3). From this, it means that I am idealistic as well as a social person. Based on the career indicator of Jung, an individual possessing this kind of personality can perfectly fit in a career that involves intellectual skills, community service and communication careers. The three strengths that I chose are intuitive, perception as well as feeling. These preferences assist me greatly in expressing my strong points od view as well as my strong values. The strengths also give me the potential of utilizing some social skill in persuading other people and also apply creativity at work. The strengths also assist me change as be a good student through the productive interaction and effective communication when holding open forums with my colleagues. Also, the strengths can help me express myself and my ideas precisely in assignments therefore boosting my grades in class. Furthermore, the strengths will give me a higher potential of sharing innovative ideas with my colleagues when assigned to do group projects.

The participants that I selected are husband and my daughter who pose various strengths as a result of their preferences and their types of character traits. Based on Typology test, my daughter pose an Extraverted Sensing Feeling Perception (ESFP) type of character personality. I can describe her as spontaneous, conversional as well as entertaining. her preferences forms part of her strengths, that is, sensing, perceiving as well as feeling. The three functions enable her communicate effectively, process any information given and also provide accurate answers when needed. My husband, on the other hand, poses the Extraverted Intuitive Thinking Judging (ENTJ) type of personality. An individual with such kind of personality is often characterized as confident, analytical and also authoritative (ENTJ Communication Skills. (n. d)). The three strengths are derived from the preferences that he poses which are intuitive, judging and also critical thinking. The preferences make him effective in planning, leadership and organization. Based on Typology test, it is clear that my daughter has ESFP personality and therefore, she is described as an entertaining, conversational as well as a spontaneous person (Butt & Heiss, (n. d)). Her personality strengths are anchored from her personality preferences such as feeling, perceiving and also sensing. The preferences greatly allow her to process information, give accurate answers and communicate fluently and accurately.

I and my daughter share similar feelings as well as perceiving preferences meaning that we can effectively communicate and express our feelings at the same time. Additionally, immediately we process information, the perception ability enables us to improvise instead of creating a new action plan. Furthermore, both of us excel in communication and feeling at ease therefore being able to form a strong relationship. On the other hand, we don’t share even a single personality function with my husband. However, my feeling-preference attracts emotions that can sometimes block my husband’s way of thinking as well as decision making. Moreover, purely-analytical conversations sometimes challenge my personality. However, individuals with similar personality as my husband normally get jobs which require their intense skills of analysis and planning. Only one personality function that I share with my husband is the extraverted-general interest.

According to Jung and Gardner’s theories there are sixteen different types of personality. To understand the type of personality that a person poses, it is essential to understand the impacts that the person’s character towards others. The primary reason why harmony and challenges occurs in a relationship is because of a person’s type of personality and preferences (Grand Canyon University, 2013). Like minded individuals can communicate effortlessly and for long periods of time since they can understand what is happening in each other’s surrounding environment. On the other hand, individuals having different preferences have difficulties communicating with each other since they cannot comprehend what the other person is feeling. The personality and preference of a person determines their careers and their relationships with other persons.
