With no doubt, insects are the most successful living things on earth. The first reason for their success is that they easily adapt to changes in learning. Insects easily adapt to the environment through a genetic modification. Research indicates that most insects are heterogeneous which means that a lot of variation exists. This means that, when a change in the environment occurs, some species of insect are better adaptive to the changes than the rest, and as a result, they survive the changes. The second reason for their success is that insects reproduce sexually between different males and females, which produce more variation as compared to asexual reproduction. In addition, insects reproduce fast which implies that a queen insect lays hundreds of eggs over its lifetime creating a colony of hundreds of thousands insects and most of them mature within days which guarantees their success.
The main reason why giant insects existed is due to the high oxygen levels. Due to the high oxygen levels in the atmospheres, insects were able to get sufficient oxygen through the breathing tubes instead of the lungs. However, after the oxygen levels dropped, the insects were not able to get enough oxygen lead to a significant reduction in their size. Another reason why giant insects do not exist to date is due to the evolution of birds. In this case, the predator birds led to the giant insects favoring small bodies as the large bodies were vulnerable to prey birds. In addition, the evolution of bat, the continued evolution of birds, and the drop in the oxygen levels were the major contributing factor to the extinction of giant insects.
