Obesity is a health predicament that has evolved to be proliferating all over the world. Bouchard’s article acts as an eye opener on the causes of the high increase in obesity rates globally. More so, the human body is designed to improve its performance after taking part in physical exercises. Over the past years, physical activities were a requirement for one to survive. According to the author, technological advancements have eradicated the need to carry out physical activity. Evidently, a majority of the people are physically inactive which has led to a high increase of related health problems.

The article, “Physical Activity and Health,” has clearly highlighted a comprehensive study on the advantages of a physically active lifestyle and the severe consequences of physical inactivity. The text provides an overview of the main ideas, presentation of the current knowledge base, and most importantly coming up with directions for future research. Moreover, Bouchard points out that physical activity has an influence on health issues such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, and pulmonary health.

The text illustrates the manner in which technological advancements have caused persons to be inactive. Individuals enjoy and get addicted to technological mechanisms and appliances that make life very comfortable and easier hence no changes to the lifestyle. The act of being in a comfort zone makes many people around the world not to eat healthily and disregard the need to increase leisure time activities. Consequently, one of the applicable approaches drawn from this text is eating a balanced diet and at the same time increasing leisure time activities.

However, irrespective of figuratively analyzed topics from Bouchard, some parts of me feels that we should not entirely blame the lack of physical activities on health concerns. Instead, individuals should be responsible for the decisions they make, and they should suffer the outcome of those decisions particularly when it comes to health and weight issues. Additionally, the society today tends to hide their head in the sand and assume everything is okay when we see an overweight person in the community. We support these people and their lifestyle by selling fast food to them, and even we go a step further to make them national icons.
